It seems I was destined to live in the tiny ocean state of Rhode Island, marry a yacht captain, and write novels and plays with water themes. In 2026, I will be releasing another...
THE HISTORY
Moonwater Beach is the sequel to Inn Lak’ech: A Journey to the Realm of Oneness and the third book in the Little Blessing visionary fiction series for young adults. (Seaglass Christmas: A Little Blessing Mystery is the prequel.)
Moonwater Beach began as visionary fiction but evolved into a story about water conservation, thus becoming eco-fiction. Water is the central theme, but the book also touches on bigotry, politics, and mysticism.
Book Three begins one year after the presumed drowning of Mercy-Faith (“Elm”) Sunday, the protagonist of Inn Lak’ech.
THE PLOT
Veterinary assistant Snow Whitedove Smith wants to attend water carrier school so she can learn how to save and protect Moonwater Beach in her hometown of Little Blessing.
THE SUBPLOTS
The first obvious one is that Snow is grieving the death of her best friend, Elm Sunday.
Snow is biracial. Her mother was a white Puritan and her father is a native, from Little Blessing’s Moonwater tribe. Even though she identifies as a native, Snow is often forced to choose between her two cultures.
Snow attends water carrier school in Arizona, where she stays with Song Rise, her crystal-loving shaman aunt.
Snow joins her fellow water carriers at a prayer camp in Standing Rock.
Snow has heard stories about The Dark Prophecy her entire life and when it happens in Little Blessing, she’s doubtful the town will recover.
Snow marches on Washington where she is tear-gassed and stabbed.
Constantly nagged by Elm’s spirit, Snow is intent on finally solving the cold case murder of Royce, Elm’s sailor boyfriend.
Snow believes it was dark magic that caused the ultimate downfall of Elm. Nevertheless, Snow begins an alliance with the same ancient mermaid who taught Elm Sunday how to “control” the water.
